Greetings from Texas! I know, it has been ages. I am sure many of you are wondering if I just forgot about Plum Pie completely in a heat-induced memory coma. Fear not, I could never forget! But I am just now beginning to feel like a normal person again after the move. The good news is that Andrew the H, Henry the dog, and I are finally moved in and semi-settled at our new house. We made the journey in less than a week with two stops, two very full cars, one adorable dog, and lots of Wendy’s kids meals (Admit it. You love the mini frosty, too.). And once I found the Casey Anthony trial on Sirius XM’s HSN radio channel, the trip just flew by. Okay, that is a slight exaggeration, but it did provide some fascinating road trip entertainment.
Happy Memorial Day!
Well, I hope you didn’t think I forgot about you! I sincerely apologize for my lengthy hiatus. I had had big plans to write a post before heading off to Italy last Monday, but for some reason, I just couldn’t get it together. Shocking, I know. Between packing, eating, sleeping, and touring all historical landmarks within a 30-mile radius of Charlottesville, I had little time to think. My apologies.
The Super Bowl is coming up on Sunday, and this girl loves a Super Bowl party. I really don’t know why that is. I am not a big fan of football (much to my hubby’s dismay), and I could care even less about NFL football. Andrew blames it on the fact that I didn’t go to a football school (yup I confess, I love basketball, can you blame me?). The truth is that I usually like football when I am not forced to pay attention to it. I LOVE a great tailgate and football watching parties are always super fun. Plus, football season usually means fall weather which is one of my favorite seasons.
I am particularly interested in this year’s Super Bowl because it is being held in Dallas! Yes, I live in Charlottesville now but I lived in Dallas for almost three years before I made the big move to the east coast (Cville by way of DC). And things were starting to ramp up for the big game right before I left two years ago. People have been partying for that long about this. For real. I am so sad that I am not there right now—not because I would go to the game at all—but mostly because of ALL the star sightings I am missing. Le sigh.
The weather has been dreadful lately, and I have had little to no interest in leaving my house. I pack all of my errands into one outing, so I only have to dart from my car to my apartment door twice. And after weeks of sitting in my perpetually cold home office bundled up in a puffy jacket, I finally bought a space heater which has literally SAVED my life. Hello, spring? Are you out there? Please! Hurry!!!
Unfortunately, this weather makes me crave hearty, stick to your ribs, warm your bones fare. What, you say? Weren’t you just preaching about being nutritious last week—your only New Year’s resolution? Yes. it is true. I did say that. We are taking baby steps over here people. And while on the subject, WHO came up with the bright idea to make healthy eating resolutions smack dab in the middle of winter??
I don’t really remember eating meatloaf growing up. In fact, I feel like meatloaf has gotten a bad rap for all of these years. Maybe because it can be synonymous with cafeteria food or because it was always featured looking plastic-y and dry on 1950’s t.v. dinners (sort of like Salsbury Steak right? Blech). Or maybe because it looks like brown mystery meat. Whatever the reason is irrelevant. Meatloaf seems to really be making a resurgence lately with the upscale comfort food craze. And I’m right there actively participating in the comfort food deliciousness.
