Chocolate Sandwich Cookies with Peppermint Candy Cane Crush

Chocolate Peppermint Sandwich Cookies with Buttercream + Crushed Candy Canes | Plum Pie

Happy New Year! I can’t believe that 2015 is here. 2014 has been a pretty great year, but I am even more excited about what 2015 has in store. Before we start on our healthy new year resolutions, I thought I would leave you with one last cookie recipe. Because you really can’t start your new resolutions on a Thursday. That would be weird. Resolutions, healthy habits, diets – all of these things start on Mondays, right? So for now, we can continue to eat cookies!

Spiced Pumpkin Bars with Cream Cheese Frosting

Spiced Pumpkin Bars with Cream Cheese Icing | Plum Pie

I hope that everyone isn’t already over pumpkin recipes because I have the best one. Yep. Delicious, cinnamon-spiked pumpkin cake covered in cream cheese frosting. I’m sorry that I have been sitting on this one for weeks. I’ve been meaning to post the recipe but have no excuse. In all honesty, I made this in the middle of September and again at the beginning of October. Oh, and again at the end of October. I’ve been so busy eating pumpkin bars that I clearly have had no time to post the recipe!

I’ve made a lot of pumpkin recipes this fall much to my husband’s dismay. He claims he isn’t a fan of pumpkin but continues to “try” recipes over and over again. The so-called pumpkin haters in my house have not deterred me from making many pumpkin treats. I’ve made chocolate chip pumpkin bread and roasted butternut squash orrechiette. There’s been pumpkin cornbread (recipe coming soon) and pumpkin cinnamon rolls. And I have an entire pinterest board dedicated to Fall (read: pumpkin) recipes.

Kale and Brussels Sprouts Salad

Kale and Brussels Sprouts Salad | Plum Pie

Happy New Year! We have all been struggling with a pretty serious cold at our house. First, Grace started feeling sick. On New Years Eve, after throwing up a few too many times, I took her to the doctor to find out that she had a bad cold that had settled in her chest and she had two ear infections. As soon as we left the parking lot, I started to feel congested, too. I can’t say I’m that surprised. When a snotty baby sticks her hands in your mouth all the time, it is pretty much a miracle if you come out on the other side without contracting his or her illness. Even Andrew the H is coughing. She is a sneaky one with those snotty hands!

Menu Ideas: Christmas Brunch

Christmas Brunch Menu

Christmas morning has always been my favorite part of the year. I have such fond memories of waking up with my sister, often before sunrise, to dig into our stockings. Now, I prefer to sleep in until the sun comes up, but Christmas morning is still my favorite. I love snuggling around the fire in my Christmas pjs, slippers, and a cup of hot tea. We always have a delicious breakfast spread before we unwrap all of the presents under the tree. This year will be the most special as it is our first Christmas with Gracie. I know that she doesn’t understand Christmas yet and certainly won’t be unwrapping her own presents, but I can’t wait to see her face when she sees all of the wrapping paper and ribbons and tissue to play with. I can’t wait to start new traditions and celebrate old ones with my precious baby girl.

Wild Mushroom + Sage Cornbread Dressing

Wild Mushroom + Sage Cornbread Dressing | Plum Pie

The other day, I was talking at work about how excited I was for Thanksgiving. It is one of my favorite holidays for many reasons, and I often make an excuse to celebrate it twice by hosting Thanksgiving with friends. It is a carb-lover’s dream! Dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, a little turkey on the side. How can you not love it? Until my friend at work said that she in fact, did not really like Thanksgiving food. It took me a few minutes to comprehend how anyone on this earth could not love Thanksgiving food and when I finally came to, she explained that it was the dressing that just didn’t do it for her.

Arugula, Pear, and Goat Cheese Salad

Arugula Pear + Goat Cheese Salad | Plum Pie

Who has to work this week, raise your hand. Okay, now, who is actually—I mean, really working this week and who is just catching up on Google Reader, pinning new pics to Pinterest? Yep, that’s what I thought. I mean, I already did a much needed re-org of my work inbox, cleaned off my desk, put together some emails to shoot out on Tuesday when the rest of civilization goes back to work, and created not one, but two pretty awesome if-I-must-say-so-myself Pandora radio stations. I guess you could say that it has been a pretty productive non working, work week!

Slow Roasted Tomatoes

There is really nothing better than a middle of summer tomato from the farmer’s market. And after tasting one, it is even harder to eat mid-winter grocery store tomatoes. So what’s a tomato-loving girl to do during the winter months? Why, make slow roasted tomatoes, of course! These jewels are fool proof and provide the perfect flavor pop for your winter tomato blues. They take less than 5 minutes to put together then slowly caramelize and shrivel in the oven for most of the morning (or afternoon). If you have never tried slow roasted tomatoes before, you will be shocked by the change of flavor from simply roasting super low and super slow.

Spicy Beef and Buffalo Chili

Spicy Beef + Buffalo Chili | Plum Pie

The Super Bowl is coming up on Sunday, and this girl loves a Super Bowl party. I really don’t know why that is. I am not a big fan of football (much to my hubby’s dismay), and I  could care even less about NFL football. Andrew blames it on the fact that I didn’t go to a football school (yup I confess, I love basketball, can you blame me?). The truth is that I usually like football when I am not forced to pay attention to it. I LOVE a great tailgate and football watching parties are always super fun. Plus, football season usually means fall weather which is one of my favorite seasons.

I am particularly interested in this year’s Super Bowl because it is being held in Dallas! Yes, I live in Charlottesville now but I lived in Dallas for almost three years before I made the big move to the east coast (Cville by way of DC). And things were starting to ramp up for the big game right before I left two years ago. People have been partying for that long about this. For real. I am so sad that I am not there right now—not because I would go to the game at all—but mostly because of ALL the star sightings I am missing. Le sigh.
